They just released a mixtape (mixed by Mick Boogie) of new material (through Kweli's Blacksmith website) called "Party Robot"... and it's DOPE! Check it out, and keep an eye out for the full-length album!

Amp Fiddler + Sly & Robbie

This is some HOT shit y'all. Serious business here, as most of us would expect from Sly & Robbie. I've been listening to Amp Fiddler's stuff for a few years now too, so this is a pleasant surprise collaboration! A note to the reggae heads: Because this is Sly & Robbie, it is not necessarily straight reggae/dub style. It''s more on the futuristic/soul/r+b/electronic type o'thing. ;) ..but of course there's a surprise or two towards the end!

Just listen to it...and support it if you love it!

Enjoy...

PTR's Next Stop

Public Transit Recordings just released a free compilation celebrating their 10 years running....and it's GREAT! I am not just saying this because I am friends with label-mates Moonstarr and LAL, but also because this is a Canadian compilation, and a fantastically diverse one at that! This 15 track collection has a variety of hip-hop, soul, and cool electronica to satisfy any music enthusiast.

If you click on the download link below, it will take you to the PTR site where you simply have to give them your email address for their mailing list, and in exchange they give you this awesome compilation for free! Check out the album, and don't forget to drop a "thanks for the free tunes" to the friendly folks at PTR... And tell 'em Mista D sent ya!

Enjoy!

Happy 4/20 from The Salads!

I realized recently that I had yet to post "The Big Remixes" album by my band, The Salads, on this blog; And what a better date to do so! ;)

This album consists of remixes, ranging in different styles, of songs from our 2006 album, "The Big Picture". We made "The Big Remixes" gradually available, song by song, as free downloads from our website (thesalads.com) throughout 2007. There were so many other friends and fans who are working on other remixes, but this album consists of the first 7 best remixes that we've received. Who knows, maybe someday we'll do a sequel....?!

Enjoy!

Niggy Tardust

Following in the recent steps of Radiohead, Saul Williams has joined forces with Trent Reznor and released his latest album as a free or pay-what-you-can release. Unlike the Radiohead album, this one comes with the album cover plus a 33 page pdf full of art and hand-written lyrics and credits. Very dope! I still have to listen to it, so hopefully the album is as cool as the packaging and concept. I'm sure it will be...Check it out for yourself...

Skindred a'wikkid bwoy!

This album came out in 2004, and I have been killing it since.

These guys were once known as DubWar. Skindred has a similiar sound to DubWar, but Skindred is much heavier. Skindred have this wikkidly heavy, dancehall/ragga/metal/punk sound that I just love. I have added a few extra bonus tracks to this download for y'all to hear: a drum'n'bass remix of "Pressure", a Peter Tosh cover of "Steppin' Razor", and the video for "Set It Off". These guys apparently have a new album coming out soon too, which I will eagerly await!

ENJOY!

The Freestylers rocked hard.

Maybe it's just cause I'm living in Canada, or maybe it's because I don't do the all-night-parties as often as I used to back in the '90s...but I haven't heard much about The Freestylers for a loooong time! The reason why I mention the Canadian thing is because The Freestylers' album "We Rock Hard" has been discontinued here for quite some time (for whatever reasons), and I don't know too many people around here that remember them...or so it seems. I do know that they released at least 3 other albums after "We Rock Hard"; "Pressure Point" in 2003, "Raw As Fuck" in 2004, and "Adventures In Freestyle" in 2006. I am not yet familiar with these other albums, but would like to check them out still!

Nonetheless, this song popped up on my random iTunes player this morning and it immediately threw me back to 1999, when the album was released, and I was partying it up like any kid moving away from home for the first time should! Wild times! And this album was the soundtrack to many a night.

The Freestylers are a mix of all kinds of dance music, but mainly hip-hop/drum'n'bass/big-beat/breakbeat/ragga/electro....
Just check it out.... :)
