Soulive

I picked up Soulive's "Next" album back in 2002, and really dug it....I particularly killed that Ani Difranco cover sung by Dave Matthews....phewww....deadly. :) Well, now Soulive has a new lead singer instead of various guest vocalists...and this new guy kills it!

I was really happy to see that they released a new one in 2007. After listening to the first 2 tracks I was already impressed by this new direction, and I sat up straight in my chair to listen to the rest of the album. And HOLY SHIT. I'm loving this album!

Highlight tracks for me so far: "Don't Tell Me", "Callin", "Morning Light", "Yeah Yeah", "If This World Was A Song".....aww man, the whole album is reeally dope y'all! haha

Big ups to Blak's Lair for posting this one!

Bobby McFerrin

This kat is THE MAN.

I have most of Bobby McFerrin's catalogue, so it was tough to pick one album to post on here...but I realized that I always find myself going back to this particular gem from 1990 quite often. I've been listening to a lot of his music again lately, especially the strictly acapella tracks....DEADLY stuff!

So I thought I'd share some with y'all....Check it out...and lemme know what you think...

Amy Winehouse LIVE!

I recently caught the second of two shows that Amy Winehouse did in Toronto at the Mod Club (thanks to my good buddy, Darrin Pfeiffer) and even though the show was somewhat short, it was VERY sweet. She has The Dap Kings band backing her up, who are so deadly, and even though Amy drunkenly stumbled through her speeches between songs, her singing voice was awesome!

Check out this internet show recording from a show Amy did this year in Amsterdam at The Paradiso on February 8th. With the exception of a few songs, it's pretty similar to the set I saw in Toronto. It's a good one! Enjoy!

Happy Birthday, Bob!

On this very day, back in 1945, Mr. Robert Nesta Marley was born. If Bob was still alive today, he would be 62 years old. Wouldn't that be a trip? What kind of music would he be creating if he were still around?

Well, in honor of the man who, I think, is still the most popular musical artist worldwide....

I will be singing with my "Mob Barley" group tonight in Burlington to pay tribute to Mr. Marley (see flyer HERE), and this Thursday in Toronto (another flyer HERE).

AND here is one of the best covers of "No Woman, No Cry" that I have ever heard. Charlie Hunter just captures the beauty of this song so well. A nice chillaxin' tchune. (The whole "Natty Dread" album is worth picking up too!) ;) Enjoy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BOB!!! We love you!!

I wanna go drinkin' with Amy Winehouse...

...That is after I have a few pints with Tom Waits. haha

I just found out about this female singer named Amy Winehouse. She's got this dirty, soulful, jazzy thing goin' on...She's dope. The other day I saw the video for her first single, "Rehab", from her latest album, "Back To Black"...and the video sold me! I then saw her second video, "You Know I'm No Good"....Enough to make me check out the entire album.

So now I've heard that album, and the one before that, "Frank" (released in 2003), which is a lil' heavier on the R&B side, but still very good. I was particularly surprised by the track "In My Bed", which uses the same instrumental that NaS used on "Made You Look". Very kool!

Anyways, check out this video for "Rehab"...and if you dig that, check out the entire album too! Lemme know if you dig it...
