The Human Voice Acapella Mixtape

Ok... Here's the latest mixtape by me, Mista D. I am a singer and I love acapella music, so I decided to put together a collection of some of my favourite acapella recordings from a variety of artists and albums. 18 tracks to be exact! Hope you enjoy! Please post a comment and let me know if you do. That'll encourage me to make another one for you! ;)

The Ice Opinion

In 1994, rapper/actor/entrepreneur, Ice-T, released a book called "The Ice Opinion : Who Gives A Fuck?". I have a copy of the audiobook, which is dope because it's read by Ice himself. It's a great listen if you're on a long journey in your car, or on the subway, or whatever....Ice-T is the man.

Of the 11 chapters, here are chapters 5 (Men, Woman & Sex) and 6 (Rap:The Art Of Shit Talkin') for you to have a listen to. I got a kick out of these two chapters the most. Some other topics he touches on in the book are religion, racism, gang warfare, riots & revolution, crime & punishment, among many others. If anyone is interested in the rest of the book, leave me a comment and maybe I'll post the rest piece by piece, as they're big files.

Now, listen up to the original gangsta....Ice Muthafuckin' T!

Niggy Tardust

Following in the recent steps of Radiohead, Saul Williams has joined forces with Trent Reznor and released his latest album as a free or pay-what-you-can release. Unlike the Radiohead album, this one comes with the album cover plus a 33 page pdf full of art and hand-written lyrics and credits. Very dope! I still have to listen to it, so hopefully the album is as cool as the packaging and concept. I'm sure it will be...Check it out for yourself...

Bobby McFerrin

This kat is THE MAN.

I have most of Bobby McFerrin's catalogue, so it was tough to pick one album to post on here...but I realized that I always find myself going back to this particular gem from 1990 quite often. I've been listening to a lot of his music again lately, especially the strictly acapella tracks....DEADLY stuff!

So I thought I'd share some with y'all....Check it out...and lemme know what you think...

Singin' Circlesongs

This album was released in 1997, but for some reason, is not an easy one to find in Canada.

Too many people only know the works of Bobby McFerrin through "Don't Worry, Be Happy"...but he has SO many other cool recordings out there! "Circlesongs" is one of those recordings. This album was recorded with Bobby McFerrin and 12 other singers...sometimes multi-tracked. The songs are all "Circlesongs", named by numbers, and there are eight tracks.

I've included "Circlesong Three" on the fifth episode of my "Good Music Podcast", an hour and twenty-some minutes of chilled-out songs I combined and called, "Mellow Moods". Check out the link below to listen to it and/or download it. And definitely check out the Bobby McFerrin track and then go buy the album if you dig it...it's well worth it!
