Capital Letters

I just stumbled upon this one recently on the Reggae Inna Babylon Blog and I'm really glad I did.

Capital Letters is a reggae band from the UK, and this album, "Headline News" was released on Greensleeves Records in 1979. If you dig Steel Pulse, you'll love this one! If you know anything more about this album, please drop me a comment and share it with me.

Personal favourites on this record so far are "Run Man Run", "Smoking My Ganja", "Bread And Water", and "Buzz Rock".

Enjoy!

The Dualers

This album came out in 2006, and I just heard it this week for the first time, thanks to an awesome blog called Life In Monochrome (who in turn got it from a blog called Musica & Cerveja). Awesome album! Great songs! Thanks!

The Dualers are from South London, England, and this is their 3rd album.

Check out this great song and video to get the vibe of these guys...

Mista D's GOOD MUSIC Podcasts

Back in August, 2006, I started a podcast called MISTA D'S GOOD MUSIC PODCAST. I did 8 episodes and posted them on podomatic.com. Then they told me that was all the space I had left to post, so I started a new page at mypodcast.com, made podcast #9, and now I can't even access the page as it's been randomly shut down. That's when I decided to start the BLOG COMPILATIONS, of which I've done one so far (see here). The 2nd one is on it's way! Stay tuned!

And in the meantime, here are some direct links to my previous podcasts, if you haven't already heard them...

ENJOY!

The Makeshift Heroes

I first heard of these guys through my friends in the Cheap Suits. Then I saw them live, and was very impressed by these talented highschool kids who could lay down some good ska....and pull it off live!

I think these 2 EPs that the band released, "Not So Fast" in 2005, and "Last Call" in 2006, are a great full-length album put together...so here you go!

Big thanks to Branks for the approval to put these up for y'all. Go check out his new band with former Makeshift singer, Ben, called Dinosaur Bones. Different sound than Makeshift, but cool stuff still.

Enjoy!

P.S. If you are a fan of the song "Mad World" from the Donnie Darko soundtrack, be sure to check out these guys' version on the Last Call EP....Deadly!

P.P.S. Happy Mothers' Day!! :)

400% Dynamite!

The Soul Jazz Records label has released 6 volumes of this "Dynamite" series of reggae, ska, soul, rocksteady, funk, and dub classics from Jamaica. Here is volume 4 (aka 400%), which is one of my favourites! If you dig this one, definitely check out the other 5, as they're very similar and wikkid collections. The guys/djs behind this collection are rad dudes too. I few years back I had the opportunity to share some Canadian homegrown with these lovely English blokes while they were on a DJ tour performing in Toronto. Good times! Can't wait for them to come back!

Diiiiiiig and enjoy...

Steel Pulse

In 1982, English reggae group, Steel Pulse, released their album, "True Democracy". They recorded the album in 25 days in Denmark. This album, in my opinion, contains some of the best songs by Steel Pulse.

If you don't know about Steel Pulse, this is a great introduction...Enjoy!

Ali Campbell

I just got this new solo album from UB40's lead singer, Ali Campbell....and man, I can't get it outta my head!! It's SO good! I just LOVE this man's voice!

My favourite tracks so far are: "Don't Go", "I Want One Of Those", "Don't Try This At Home", and the amazing covers of Bob Marley's "Hallelujah Time", and Stevie Wonder's "Village Ghetto Land".

Deadly, deadly stuff, folks.....or at least to my ears! ;) Lemme know if you dig it too....Enjoy!

Seeed iz goot ya.

I stumbled upon this German reggae band called Seeed, simply by searching around online for certain artists, and I found a Seeed song that featured Cee-Lo Green (Gnarls Barkley, Goodie Mob) on vocals, called "Rise & Shine" aka "Aufstehn". I loved the track and proceeded to check out Seeed's discography. This particular album, "Music Monks", was released around 2003, and is my favourite album of theirs so far.

Check it out, and let me know if you dig these good and heavy reggae vibes..... :)

This live performance of "Waterpumpee" in 2006 is pretty deadly too...These guys are for real!:

The Urge!

It seems like people forgot about these guys since they broke up in 2001. They put out some dope ska/rock/metal/type shit..They were dope! I know that their singer, Steve Ewing, released a few solo albums, but I haven't had the chance to hear them yet (If you got 'em, send 'em ova!)

So check out their last major full length album, which I think is their best, "Too Much Stereo"....

Enjoy!

P.S. I have their earlier material too if anyone is interested. ;)

The Black Seeds

When I was on tour in Australia a few years ago, I made a point of reading as many Aussie music magazines/newspapers as I could, and hitting all the indie music shops, in hopes of finding some new musical favourites. The Black Seeds was one of those finds.

These guys are a funky, soulful, reggae group from New Zealand that formed in 1998. They have been tearing up clubs across Australia and area, but it seems that they are relatively unknown here in Canada. In 2002, they released this album "Keep On Pushing", which is now a favourite of mine.

So check out this album, and if you dig it, hit up their website/MySpace and let's convince these kats to tour Canada!
When you hit up their website, make sure to scroll your mouse over the giraffe's head a few times for a good laugh. ;)

The Mighty Mighty BossTones!

Back in 1991, The Mighty Mighty BossTones released this awesome EP for their single "Where'd You Go?" from their "More Noises & Other Disturbances" album that came out the same year. This EP has 5 songs: The BossTones' "Where'd You Go" and "Do Something Crazy", and 3 covers: Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion", Metallica's "Enter Sandman", and Van Halen's "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love". Some hot shit, folks!

If you haven't already heard this, you're in luck! Enjoy!
