Monster Truck

My band just played a show with these guys and Die Mannequin the other night at the Sound Academy in Toronto. They're from Hamilton, and a couple of the guys used to be in The Reason. Monster Truck is heavier than The Reason, and has apparently existed for a bit over a year now. ;) Check out their debut 4 song EP as a free download.... Enjoy!

Food Songs!

I've been collecting songs for this one for a while, and thanks to some additions based on friends' recommendations, I've put together the first mix of 25 songs! It's a mix of many genres, but is a fun one all around.

If you listen to this collection on iTunes, and click on the little arrow in the album artwork window, you can view each song's orginal album...Check those out too!

This compilation fits on 1 cd too, but I had to post it in 2 parts because it's awesomeness is so large. haha

Lemme know what'cha think....ENJOY!

DJ Z-Trip!

DJ Z-Trip is still, to me (and many others too, I'm sure), the best party-rockin' DJ alive today. I realize that's a bold statement, but keep in mind that a TRUE party-rockin' DJ is in tune with his or her audience. What is the CROWD gonna dig and get down to? Z-Trip can rock ANY crowd...and that makes him the man. :) haha

Here's more proof that he's the man... Check out these OBAMA mixes...Pt.1 AND Pt.2...before and after.....VERY dope. Great selections. Amazing mixes. Another gem!

Thanks again, Z-Trip!!

Enjoy!

Adele

When my wife brought Adele's album "19" to my attention, I was interested, but not as much as I am now that Mick Boogie re-introduced it to me as "1988"...and knocked it out of the park! This mixtape/remix-project is superb. I'm sure my wife will understand when she hears this one too. haha Check it out...

You Have A Choice.

This is a new single that was just released by a group of Canadian artists who have joined together to record a song sponsored by Avaaz, titled “You Have a Choice,” to mobilize and inspire Canadians to stop a Harper majority from devastating our climate by voting strategically where we live for the candidate most likely to defeat the Conservative candidate.

The Canadian artists who rallied together for this effort, besides myself, include: K-OS, Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies, Ben Kowalewicz of Billy Talent, Adam Gontier of Three Days Grace, Sarah Harmer, Hawksley Workman, Jason Collett of Broken Social Scene, Ian Lefeuvre of The Hundreds and Thousands, and the Arts Offstage Choir under the direction of David Reed.

You can hear me singing along with Benny Talent in the first half of the bridge, and backing up K-OS on the first chorus, and then again on my own during a part of the last chorus.

Check out the song, and help us save the planet!

Go here to listen and download the song: www.avaaz.ca

Mista D's GOOD MUSIC Podcasts

Back in August, 2006, I started a podcast called MISTA D'S GOOD MUSIC PODCAST. I did 8 episodes and posted them on podomatic.com. Then they told me that was all the space I had left to post, so I started a new page at mypodcast.com, made podcast #9, and now I can't even access the page as it's been randomly shut down. That's when I decided to start the BLOG COMPILATIONS, of which I've done one so far (see here). The 2nd one is on it's way! Stay tuned!

And in the meantime, here are some direct links to my previous podcasts, if you haven't already heard them...

ENJOY!

Imani Coppola

After I saw 2 live Peeping Tom shows during the course of last year, I was super stoked to hear the new Imani Coppola recordings. I've known about her before she toured as back-up singer with Mike Patton's Peeping Tom project, but after seeing her live with them, I was really impressed by this lady!

So last week I stumbled upon "The Black & White Album", her 2007 release on Patton's label, Ipecac Records. And this album is DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE!! I'm loving it!! I really can't say much else about it. I don't even know what type of music genre the entire album would be classified under, as it's all over the place. Just great songs!

Just check it out...

Now. :)

Enjoy!

Dubxanne

I just bumped into this pleasant surprise today. Big ups to Spliff for hosting it (and MANY other reggae gems!).

"The Police In Dub" by Dubxanne was released this year on Echo Beach Records. It is mainly dub versions of Police classics, but also features a few wicked vocalists like Big Youth, Eased from Seeed, and Ranking Roger, to name a few. This release to me is very much in the same vein as what the Easy Star All-Stars did to Pink Floyd and Radiohead through "Dub Side Of The Moon" and "Radiodread". Deadly stuff and nicely executed!!

ENJOY!

Maximillian

I decided to post this rare album after receiving some positive comments on a few older albums I've posted with a similar sound. One comment in particular on the Purple Image post from Monica Payne-Torain said...

HELLO THERE! I REALLY DON'T KNOW A WHOLE LOT ABOUT THE PURPLE IMAGE ALBUM, BUT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME. MY FATHER, RICHARD PAYNE WAS THE DRUMMER ON THE ALBUM. MY SISTERS MOTHER, DIANE DUNLAP WAS ONE OF THE SINGERS. I MUST SAY I HAVE NEVER EVEN SEEN THE ALBUM, BUT I KNEW ABOUT IT. THANK YOU FOR HAVING IT AVAILABLE. TAKE CARE

I love that shit. Glad to get that album to you, Monica!

This one is a rare, heavy, Hendrix-inspired, psychedelic, funk-rock album from 1969 by a group called Maximillian. This is the only album of theirs I've ever heard...and that's all I really know about this one, unfortunately. If you have more info, please drop me a comment and let me know. Otherwise...

ENJOY!

Happy 4/20 from The Salads!

I realized recently that I had yet to post "The Big Remixes" album by my band, The Salads, on this blog; And what a better date to do so! ;)

This album consists of remixes, ranging in different styles, of songs from our 2006 album, "The Big Picture". We made "The Big Remixes" gradually available, song by song, as free downloads from our website (thesalads.com) throughout 2007. There were so many other friends and fans who are working on other remixes, but this album consists of the first 7 best remixes that we've received. Who knows, maybe someday we'll do a sequel....?!

Enjoy!

Purple Image

HAPPY NEW YEAR, Y'ALL!!

After noticing that my earlier post of the Demon Fuzz album has received the most downloads of all my posts, I've decided to put up another in a similar vein. If you haven't heard Demon Fuzz yet, think of something like Jimi Hendrix fused with P-Funk.

In 1970, the group Purple Image released their only album on the obscure Map City label. Purple Image's eponymous self-titled album merged a strong blend of soul funk and psych rock to considerable effect.

If you dig this stuff, let me know, 'cuz I've got more albums in a similar style where that came from! (ie. Black Merda, Fugi, Eddie Hazel, Cymande, Maximillian, Cane & Able, The Politicians, Bloodstone, Mandrill, Osibisa, Monomono...and so on!)

Enjoy!
