Capital Letters

I just stumbled upon this one recently on the Reggae Inna Babylon Blog and I'm really glad I did.

Capital Letters is a reggae band from the UK, and this album, "Headline News" was released on Greensleeves Records in 1979. If you dig Steel Pulse, you'll love this one! If you know anything more about this album, please drop me a comment and share it with me.

Personal favourites on this record so far are "Run Man Run", "Smoking My Ganja", "Bread And Water", and "Buzz Rock".

John Holt

This is a classic from one of Jamaica's best reggae vocalists, John Holt. The cover art is great too: Mr.Holt with a big grin, a big bag of ganja, running away from the police. A must-have for any reggae fan!

Barrington Levy

This album, by one of the greatest voices in reggae, Barrington Levy, was released in 1982. It was recorded at Channel One by Linval Thompson. Mixed by Scientist. A nicely done record, if I do say so myself. Classic material, ladies and gentlemen!

If you were as lucky as I was a few months ago, you would have been one of the fortunate members of the audience catching a reggae tour featuring Marcia Griffiths, Gregory Isaacs, and Barrington Levy LIVE!! It was Marcia Griffiths' birthday show, and all the performers were deadly as can be. Unbelievable voices still as they've grown older. And lively too! So good. :)

Enjoy!

NOFX

This is NOT a real NOFX album.

I put together this bootleg, compilation, mixtape, promotional sampler, whatever you wanna call it. haha It's a fun mix of some reggae-influenced songs by the almighty NOFX. A lil' collection compiled by yours truly. ;) I got the idea for this one watching NOFX play a Warped Tour show in Cleveland a few years ago, and Fat Mike opened the show by saying "Who wants to hear some punk rock?!" and of course the crowd goes bananas, and he says "well, Too bad! We're gonna play some bad reggae!", and they did...well sorta...I enjoyed it. haha

If you listen to this collection on iTunes, and click on the little arrow in the album artwork window, you can view each song's orginal album...Go get them all.

If you haven't seen NOFX, there is something wrong with you, and you need to do yourself a favour and do so. :)

Enjoy!

Amp Fiddler + Sly & Robbie

This is some HOT shit y'all. Serious business here, as most of us would expect from Sly & Robbie. I've been listening to Amp Fiddler's stuff for a few years now too, so this is a pleasant surprise collaboration! A note to the reggae heads: Because this is Sly & Robbie, it is not necessarily straight reggae/dub style. It''s more on the futuristic/soul/r+b/electronic type o'thing. ;) ..but of course there's a surprise or two towards the end!

Just listen to it...and support it if you love it!

Enjoy...

Mista D's GOOD MUSIC Podcasts

Back in August, 2006, I started a podcast called MISTA D'S GOOD MUSIC PODCAST. I did 8 episodes and posted them on podomatic.com. Then they told me that was all the space I had left to post, so I started a new page at mypodcast.com, made podcast #9, and now I can't even access the page as it's been randomly shut down. That's when I decided to start the BLOG COMPILATIONS, of which I've done one so far (see here). The 2nd one is on it's way! Stay tuned!

And in the meantime, here are some direct links to my previous podcasts, if you haven't already heard them...

ENJOY!

Dubxanne

I just bumped into this pleasant surprise today. Big ups to Spliff for hosting it (and MANY other reggae gems!).

"The Police In Dub" by Dubxanne was released this year on Echo Beach Records. It is mainly dub versions of Police classics, but also features a few wicked vocalists like Big Youth, Eased from Seeed, and Ranking Roger, to name a few. This release to me is very much in the same vein as what the Easy Star All-Stars did to Pink Floyd and Radiohead through "Dub Side Of The Moon" and "Radiodread". Deadly stuff and nicely executed!!

ENJOY!
